Dr. Michael Guy Thompson is a psychoanalyst in San Francisco. He's currently a faculty member of the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California and also teaches at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He has served as president of the International Federation for Psychoanalytic Education as well as the Northern California Society for Psychoanalytic Psychology. He has authored over a 100 journal articles and book reviews as well as five books on the topics of phenomenology, psychoanalysis and psychosis. He trained with R.D. Laing in London in the 1970s and now directs the annual R.D. Laing Esalen Symposium. He founded the Gnosis Retreat Center in San Francisco to offer an alternative to conventional psychiatric treatment and hospitalization during psychological or existential crisis.
